Lions Head Mountain …
Magnificent 360°C Views Of Cape Town!

From Lions Head Mountain, on a clear day, the views are spectacular and great for taking photographs, particularly of Robben Island which at least gives you the chance to catch your breath along the steep path while admiring great views.

The last section is very steep and the chains are there to assist you to climb up the section of rocky faces. Although there is an alternate route to miss the chains, the path is still quite steep.

But don’t worry, you can turn back at any point.

Full Moon Hikers

Hiking up Lion's Head Mountain at full moon is something that you have to do at least once!

And once at the top, you will be surprised to see that there are a number of hikers eagerly awaiting sunset and the full moon to rise.

If you are lucky you might even have the rare opportunity of seeing fire flies.

Starting point: Signal Hill Road, at the base of the forestry road.

  • Wear comfortable walking shoes.
  • Take along lots of water, snacks, sun protection and a warm jacket
  • Go to the bathroom before you start the hike because there are no toilets on the path.
  • If doing the Full moon walk take a torch (or better head lamp) with you.
